The ordering process was simple. The book itself was very good. The alternate world with magic worked well, and Stacey is a fascinating character. I enjoyed this standalone (maybeeeee a starter? That would be cool!) very much. Another winner from Victoria Goddard!

Stacey is having a bad enough day that when two mysterious sorcerers ask her to do an equally mysterious task for them, she says yes. They promise her that it won’t cost her soul, her shadow, her sanity, or anything else she might want especially to keep—and that the risk of death or grievous bodily harm is under ten percent.
She’s a veteran of customer service, even if magic is hardly her thing. Of course she knows there’ll be more to it than that. But hey, it’s not like she’s not curious. Or had anything else to do after losing both her other jobs before eight o’clock. And the money is suspiciously nice.
All she needs to do is open a door. Can’t be anything too weird on the other side, right?

I loved this story so much, I wished it was the beginning of a new novel, possibly series. As always, this wonderful story-teller has created a vivid world, with a central character it is easy to relate to & identify with. The general concept is intriguing & I read the story in one sitting, unable to put it down. More, please!

Was an interesting story and fun to read. Might be a cool beginning of a new series, although I really hope for more about Mr. Greenwing and Mr. Dart! The way Victoria A Hubbard writes is both complex and easy to read. Please keep writing and I will purchase and read everything!

A young woman with some training in handling magical objects, but no related work experience, is called upon to retrieve a lost object in this novella. It turns out to be far a more complicated than she anticipates. Her ingenuity as she faces puzzle after puzzle makes it an interesting read. This is a stand-alone story, and yet I would enjoy learning more about Stacy's adventures.

An unexpected quest Hurray, a brand new Victoria Goddard novella! We are in modern day Toronto, only this is a slightly different version of Toronto. Stacey is having a very bad day indeed. Then two sorcerers walk into a coffee shop. They have a job for Stacey, they say. This is just what Stacey needs, of course. But it's good that she has questions, I think. ”Is this an unbreakable contract of some kind? Like, are you going to take my soul or my shadow or something else important? Any chance of dying?” Most sensible, let’s all be like Stacey! The magical quest this turns into is awesome. Stacey is awesome. It turns out that Victoria Goddard can do urban fantasy very well. The style and the narrative voice are pitch perfect. The problem is that I now not only want more Nine Worlds stories, I want more Stacey. Stacey, don’t disappear on me after only 80 pages, come back!
