The story begins with The Hands of the Emperor and continues directly with At the Feet of the Sun. This bundle also includes several companion novellas: 

Petty Treasons tells of the meeting of Cliopher Mdang and his Radiancy from His Radiancy's perspective. The Game of Courts, which takes place parallel to Petty Treasons, gives an idea of the situation from Conju's perspective, while Portrait of a Wide Seas Islander explores an event in The Hands of the Emperor from another character's point of view. Those Who Hold the Fire describes an important moment in the life of the young Kip. Finally, Féonie and the Islander Regalia provides a humorous glimpse of Cliopher Mdang and his Radiancy from an intimate but nevertheless outside perspective.
